Record Breaking three-way

Chris Rado and his two infamous Scions take names.

Who said drag racers can’t drive? After dropping a 6.96 @146 mph run with his FWD Scion Drag car, he succeeded in turning a 1:49.7  at Buttonwillow raceway–one and a half seconds faster than GM’s five year long record. As if that wasn’t enough, he then took the Redline Time attack championship with a 1:393 run in the front and rear-winged monster TC, all on Continental tires. Much respect for a great all around driver.

Press Release:

Chris Rado Breaks Records at Three Tracks During Super Lap Battle, NHRA Finals and Time Attack with Continental Tires
Fort Mill, SC – (November 16, 2009) – Veteran racer Chris Rado of WORLD Racing broke the Unlimited FWD record at the Super Lap Battle finals on November 11th, with a time of 1.49.703.  Rado ran his Scion tC on Continental tires, the first result of a new strategic alliance between Continental Tire and Hoosier Racing Tire.  The previous record was set by GM and stood for five years, but Rado beat that by 1.615 seconds, making his the first FWD car to run under 1.50 at Buttonwillow.

Rado also broke another track record with his drag car at the NHRA finals with 6.96 @146 mph.  He then ran a 1.393 at the Redline Time Attack in his Scion tC, earning him the Unlimited Class Championship.

“Rado is an outstanding, well-rounded driver and Continental is very excited to have him running our colors,” said Terry Smouter, manager of events, Continental Tire. “A broken record on the debut of these tires is outstanding, but following that with two more track records all in one week is historic. We look forward to more great things from him in 2010.”

The new partnership aligns Continental and Hoosier as strategic partners for advanced performance solutions and motorsports integration, including collaborative marketing, product development and implementation process.  Both companies will invest substantially into resources for the marketing, business development and delivery of specific products.

Super Lap Battle is presented by Super Street, Turbo & High-Tech Performance, Modified, Eurotuner, and Import Tuner magazines.

So it took a bizarre front winged thing that is completly impractical to beat GM’s lap record?

But why did he have to do it in a Scion. It’s like winning America’s Next Top Model in a fat suite.
