Porsche 991-Gen 911 GT3 May Be Revealed At Geneva Motor Show

Big shocker.

We've been waiting...and waiting...and waiting for official news about when Porsche will reveal the 991 generation 911's performance stars—the 911 GT3 and the 911 Turbo. There's no official word yet, but while the latest rumors say to expect the 991 911 Turbo at the Frankfurt Motor Show this fall, a new report claims the next Porsche 911 GT3 will make its triumphant debut at the Geneva Motor Show. (Along with pretty much every other car you're excited to see this year.)

Final details of the 991 GT3 are still pending, but this most recent report is pretty much in line with the other info we've heard: a 3.8 liter naturally aspirated boxer six making 450 horsepower (15 more ponies than the last GT3), a curb weight around 90-100 pounds below the outgoing GT3's roughly 3,100 pound weight, and, tragically, a choice of a seven-speed PDK or buying a Carrera S. Yes, it seems Porsche has decided to go PDK only on the new GT3, though we're still crossing our fingers for a last-minute miracle. (We hear the new GT3 RS, expected around 2015 or so, may stick with the stick.)

We should know for sure in about four weeks—though if Porsche sticks with their tendency to reveal cars either before or after big auto shows to keep them from being lost in the flood of reveals, it could be as little as two or as much as six. Or hey, maybe this report will turn out wrong and it'll be six months before we find out. [via Autocar]
