Lexus Reveals Its LF-LC Concept Sports Car

Will it someday turn into an LFA sequel? We hope so.

Lexus is giving the world an early look at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show concept car they were teasing last month. Contrary to our initial guess, it’s not a preview of the next Lexus IS; it’s actually a 2+2 sports coupe whipped together as a design exercise.

The LF-LC, as it’s called, was designed at the car maker’s California design studio at the request of Toyota’s corporate office. (We’re guessing that means this could turn out to be a pretty important concept.) According to Road & Track, who nabbed an exclusive talk with some of the folks behind the LF-LC, work on the car began in May 2010, with the goal of exploring the future of Lexus design. Expect to see plenty of these design elements popping up on the Lexuses of the near future…and maybe if we’re all very, very good, Toyota will turn the LF-LC concept into an LFLC production car.

Lexus to Unveil Sport Coupe Concept Vehicle at North American International Auto Show in Detroit

TORRANCE, Calif., Dec. 21, 2011 – Taking the new Lexus design direction one step further, the LF-LC 2+2 sport coupe will be unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit at 1:25 p.m. Eastern time on January 9, 2012.

“Crafted from a clean sheet of paper at the request of Lexus headquarters in Japan, the LF-LC blends both high technology and organic shapes to connect the driver to the machine,” said Mark Templin, Lexus group vice president and general manager. “The clean lines of the vehicle emphasize motion, creating a distinctive look for this futuristic sport coupe.”

Conceived as a design exercise to explore the future of Lexus design, the LF-LC was created at the company’s Calty design studio in Newport Beach, Calif.
