The First New Viper Owners Will Be Old Viper Owners

Low supply and high demand—a perfect time to reward loyalty.

If you’re interested in buying the 2013 Dodge Viper this year, get in line. And unless you’ve been a loyal Viper owner with an active presence in the Viper community, expect it to be a long line.

Anticipating a rush for the few thousand 2013 Vipers Dodge SRT will build this year, SRT president and CEO Ralph Gilles told MSNBC that the initial production run would be allocated to die-hard members of the Viper owner’s club who currently own a V10-engined snake. That’s just to be considered, mind you. There’s no guarantee you’ll get one.

A post on the Viper Club of America forums confirmed MSNBC’s report and added to it, claiming owners will have to pony up the VIN number when they place their orders. It’s not exactly a new turn of events for the car maker; current owners were given first dibs on the 1996 and 2003 Vipers when they came out. And if you’re a recently minted millionaire who hasn’t had a chance to earn his or her Viper wings yet, relax—we can almost guarantee there will be 2013 Vipers in showrooms at twice the MSRP within a month of first deliveries. It’s just the way the world works. [via MSNBC, VCA]
