Infiniti Getting A Jump On Geneva With Sports Car Teaser

But we haven't even gotten to Detroit yet...

The automotive world is currently right in the midst of a new product food coma brought on by the just-opened Los Angeles Auto Show, but that’s not stopping Infiniti from passing out an amuse-bouche for the 2012 Geneva Motor Show already. Geez, guys, let us digest a while first.

Well, at least Infiniti’s upcoming Swiss debut sounds like it’ll be the sort of thing we’ll be at least partially interested in. The company’s brief press release describes the upcoming car as “a highly advanced, range-extending electric sports car concept,” and there are five words in that phrase we really like. “At the Geneva Show next year, we will present our vision for a totally new kind of inspired premium performance car,” Nissan executive VP Andy Palmer said in the release.

The car maker also released a couple preview images to give us a hint at the concept’s lines; from what we can see, it looks like their new concept will be a two-door coupe with a front end similar to the Infiniti M. If that range-extending electric powertrain gives the car a 0-60 time under six seconds and a top speed of at least a buck-thirty, we might actually desire this thing. [via Infiniti]

Infiniti Getting Charged up Over New Sports Car Concept
- Low Emission and High Performance; Geneva Motor Show Reveal -

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 17, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — A highly advanced, range-extending electric sports car concept is under development at Infiniti. Set to emerge at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2012, this vehicle is being created to extend the potential for high performance, low emission electric cars.

Explaining the strategy behind the concept, Andy Palmer, Executive Vice President, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd and Infiniti said: “At the Geneva Show next year, we will present our vision for a totally new kind of inspired premium performance car. Infiniti already has hybrid and clean diesel models on sale. And with an all-electric sedan on the way, the natural next step was to push the boundaries where performance and the environment intersect.”
