UAW Deal Reveals Bigger V8 For 2013 Shelby GT500
5.8 liters of raw American awesome coming soon.
Just yesterday, the United Auto Workers inked a new deal with Ford that should keep FoMoCo’s plants humming for at least four more years. Hidden in the contractual minutia, though, was an interesting tidbit for those of us who enjoy extremely powerful Mustangs: the 2013 Shelby GT500 will receive a 5.8 liter supercharged V8, up from the Lilliputian 5.4 liter engine it uses now.
The news didn’t mention anything about what sort of power increase the new GT500 motor will provide, but a previous report that nailed down the displacement increase claimed the new motor could produce as much as 620 horsepower. While we can only hope that it might be that high for now, we do believe the existence of the 580 horsepower Chevy Camaro ZL1 means the 2013 GT500 will make, at bare minimum, 581 horses. Its really a great news to hear that the new upcoming 2013 Shelby GT500 is coming out equipped with a powerful 5.4-liter V-8 super-charged engine, and it is expected to give effortless acceleration, and very impressive top-speed capability.
