The months of speculation! The countless minutes of video footage! The frantic shuffling through the desks of BMW middle-management late at night when we snuck into their New Jersey headquarters—it’s all led up to today, when we finally get the scoop on the F10 BMW M5. The car is scheduled for an official reveal at next week’s M Festival in Germany, but the press release and a ton of official pictures have made their way onto the web already, giving us the delicious scoop on the super-sedan.
The details: The 4.4 liter twin-turbo V8 cranks out 552 SAE horsepower and 502 lb-ft of torque, with max torque arriving between 1,500 and 5,750 rpm and max horsepower from 6,000 to 7,000 rpm. The 0-62 mph dash takes 4.4 seconds, the sprint to 124 mph only 13 ticks of the watch. Top speed remains at the 155 mph dictated by German tradition, but much as with certain AMG models, a new performance package gives the car a higher top speed—in the M5′s case, 190 miles per hour.
The M division’s active differential vectors torque between the rear wheels for additional “joy,” while a seven-speed dual clutch manual handles shifting duties—at least, until the manual option shows up. 265/35/20 rubber in front and 295/30/20 tires in back handle traction duties.
As for the styling, well, that’s in the eye of the beholder; your humble scribe thinks the car looks downright bad-to-the-motherf**king-ass, but your opinion may vary. (Don’t try and argue that blue isn’t the shit, however.) We’re a little surprised BMW didn’t jack up the 4.4 liter V8 to class-leading power levels while they were tweaking the engine for M5 duty, though; the Cadillac CTS-V beats it by four horsepower and 50 lb-ft.
BMW says they aim to set a sub-eight minute lap of the Nürburgring, but you can bet every dollar in your pocket their true goal is to shatter the super-Caddy’s 7:59.32 lap time. And then have Sabine Schmitz do some donuts around a parked Cadillac.

Thumbs up for making it less ugly.
