Austin's Formula One Track Gets A Name

"Circuit of the Americas" will also host MotoGP.

The race course destined to hold the United States Grand Prix in Texas finally has a name: Circuit of the Americas. Given that our office sits less than a block from Avenue of the Americas here in Manhattan, we’re wondering if the name was designed to make a certain point: that Austin has everything New York has, so there’s no reason to even consider holding an F1 race in the Big Apple.

The track, currently under construction just south of Austin, will also play host to MotoGP racing starting in 2013, though it’s unknown whether it will serve as an addition to the U.S. MotoGP schedule, which currently consists of races at Indianoplis and Laguna Seca, or if it will replace the Indy race, which will not happen next year unless Indy and MotoGP hammer out a new deal. Consider us doubly-pumped for this new track now. [via Autoweek]
