U.S. Grand Prix Track Layout Comes Into Focus

F1 course in Texas will be used for 2012 race.

While the proposed track layout for the 2012 United States Grand Prix near Austin, Texas includes sections similar to parts of Hockenheim and Silverstone, the overall course will probably look very familiar to anyone who took high school biology. To our eyes, this track (designed by F1-course-design-veteran Hermann Tilke) looks quite a bit like the profile of the microscope we used to watch cells undergo mitosis in ninth grade. The 3.35 mile course has four good overtaking spots, a total elevation change of 132 feet and a three-quarter mile long back straight, all of which should make for some entertaining Formula 1 action come 2012. A date for the race should be set sometime late next year.
