Meet Japan's RAUH-Welt

You've seen them online. Now meet the guy behind those sick, Japanese 911s.

THE SHOP’S NAME MEANS ROUGH-WORLD LIFESTYLE IN GERMAN. You’ve seen their bewilderingly hard-core tuner Porsches posted online; if you haven’t, wait five minutes (or, for a primer, check out our Rauh-Welt Mega Gallery. Not your typical bolt-on kits, these are one-of-a-kind, objets d’art that just happen to be ready for the racetrack. Conceptually, the cars suggest Teutonic racing elegance filtered through a typically Japanese, baroque pop-cultural ethos. No two are exactly alike. Find another widebody Porsche in flat black with the owner’s drink of choice on the side skirt, or graffiti on the quarter panels, or Frankenstein stitching on the flared-out fenders. Nope, not going to happen. These are the reasons for a last-minute trip halfway around the globe to find the man who’s been turning out these extraordinary Porsches for 14 years under the trade name RAUH-Welt Begriff. Any chance these shots will end up in the magazine? Also where can I get a high-res of the top image on he story? If I could own one car, it would be one of these, period.

Glad you liked it. If you go pick up the new issue, you'll see a full Rauh-Welt feature—including several of these pictures and more. In the mean time, we'll work on getting some wallpapers up for you!

After I posted I saw on Facebook that the story was going to be in the issue. Since I rarely see the magazine on newstands I just subscribed. I hope that I get the issue, in the meantime I am going to keep my eyes out. I love Rauh-Welt, the cars are perfect. Now if only I could get a Porsche and a boat load of cash to send to them.....

"Rauh-Welt Begriff" means nothing in german. "Begriff" is a term. And not even close to Lifestyle. Not to mention that Rauh-Welt is grammatically incorrect, and far from making sense, even when you know what that name is supposed to mean.

Even if I did find your story to be a bit simple for my taste, the pics really pick up on the details while still keeping the shop enshrouded in mystery. But I have seen pics of a Nissan S-15 Silvia with RAUH-Welt banner and looks. I thought they only did Porsches. Did you guys get any dirt on that car?

My point, you amoebas was that he can call the company whatever he likes, but it still doesn't mean crap in german. Which renders the introduction to this article wrong.
