On a racetrack, 148 mph isn't that fast. However, a Subaru STI might be an exception to the rule. Let's be honest: they're usually at home in the dirt flogging through the woods barreling past trees on the side of the road, so it's different to see one at VIR doing 148, when a part of the aero—a carbon fiber wing between the air foil and mount—gives way, lightening the load on the rear tires causing it to lift then spin wildly out of control, even though the driver, Phil at Element Tuning seemed to scrub some speed before the violent wreck. The car is mangled and we're sure Phil thanked his lucky stars that the safety equipment held.
