Ok, so the fires part might be a bit of an exaggeration. The rest however, is not.
This past Saturday was the third round of the 2010 Formula Drift season, The Gauntlet, held at Wall Speedway over in New Jersey. Despite the heat (temps were approaching the 100 degree mark), a huge crowd turned out to see how the top drifters in the world handled the steep banking that helps make The Gauntlet such a unique stop on the circuit tour.
He's driven every Lambo built since the late '60s, but what's his take on Sant'Agata's rival?
That's the question. Props to our friends at Gotham Dream Cars, who let us and a video crew ride along with the retired Lamborghini test driver, namesake of the Gallardo LP 550-2 Valentino Balboni and recent Lambo brand ambassador, on a cruise to New York's Bear Mountain. The bearded one waxes poetical about the marque he loves, and its rival on the other side of Modena. Here's a hint: one's a blonde and the other's a brunette.
Are you into colors? How about the GT2 M3? Must be your lucky day, then.
Following up to the teaser shot we showed you earlier last month, famed artist Jeff Koons has finally unveiled his version of a BMW Art Car - a color stripe slathered GT2 class M3. And while we thought the preview rendering was cool, this is just plain awesome. Nevermind the fact that it comes with a booming 493 horse V8, the flying colors look amazing ever with the car standing still. We approve.
Head on over to Bimmerfile for the rest of the shots.

Taking our newest project through the gravel wringer.
Two weeks ago, we took a never before run rally car to the coarse gravel stages in what's known as the Oregon Trail Rally. After three days of skidplate thrashing, opposite-lock fun, I was taught all the ins and outs of co-driving while the 0-60 team learned what it takes to build, manage, and campaign a 2 wheel drive car in the Rally America Championship.
Three Nissan GTRs, up against some high dollar foes named LFA, Veyron, and more
By now, it's well known that Nissan's GTR is a technological masterpiece that is more than capable of embarrassing sheetmetal more than twice their weight in gold.
Many moons ago (or, like a year or so ago) the staff was sitting here in the 0-60 offices, having an argument a discussion. My position in said discussion, was that anyone could go out and do a lap of the Nürburgring in under 10 minutes—assuming that they had a car with enough power and that wasn't life-threateningly difficult to drive. Of course, everyone else decided to hate on that notion, claiming that there was absolutely no way that was a realistic claim.
It was a fun—and dusty—weekend at the Oregon Trail Rally, and our 0-60 / Sparco Scion XD faired pretty well against the competition. There were five cars in the two-wheel drive class and with Rally America champ Chris Duplessis behind the wheel and our very own Ron Zaras reading notes, we managed a 2nd place finish!
Of the 27 cars that entered, only 15 finished without complication—we ranked in at 12th overall, only 1:15 off Dillon Van Way's Ford Focus, which mind you, makes a lot more power than our stock-engine Scion, as well has having plenty of seat time.
We'll have in-car video and some good shots to put up when the team returns from Oregon, but until then, you can check out the car here, and in the second video, fast forward to 51 seconds to see Chris fly through a tight left, perfectly controlled.

Porsche's latest two-wheel-drive crazy horse arrives. Just remember not to lift mid-corner. Please.
The rear-drive nutter is here. Porsche revealed its new GT2 RS, and it happens to be the most powerful production Porsche of all time. A stunning power-to-weight ratio of under five pounds per horsepower leads the numbers game on this one -- 3,021 lbs (with all fluids) and 620 hp. Ka-boom.
