The most famous Benz transporter has to be the 1955 “Blue Wonder” with the 300 SL 3.0L six-cylinder under the hood, stretched 300 S frame and interior additions from the 180 sedan. Unfortunately some dick by the name of Rudolf Uhlenhaut had the car trashed so Mercedes had to revert back to pictures of the transporter and revive it from looks alone. Pretty cool.
The other famous, but not so well known transporters are the Lo 2750 with white lettering spelling out the Mercedes-Benz Racing Department (Mercedes-Benz Rennabteilung) from 1934 and the brand new Actros truck, which is a leviathan measuring 13 feet high and 54 feet long.
Though not so rich in tradition as the cars they transported, there’s a certain panache to the transporters that makes them rich with their own history. Carry on.
