As a Saab owner (9000 Turbo and currently a 9-5) I was very excited to hear that Saab would be rescued from the mistreatment they suffered under GM. I always felt that GM was undermining Saab, never allowing them to reach near their full potential as a brand. Under the buyout by Koenigsegg Group (an international group of investors who also own Koneigsegg Auto)GM will supply some components, but development, design and production will be all Swedish. Christian Von Koenigsegg has said that he will continue to build on Saab's heritage and history. He identified Saab as a brand that is sporty and contemporary, with attention paid to safety and environmental responsibility. While not a dedicated luxury or super high performance car, comfort and performance will be elements key to Saab's brand identity. I would like to see Aero models made more powerful, and the re-introduction of SPG/Viggen super-high performance models to run with the M/AMG/RS crowd. Saab should have a sports coupe (revive the Sonnett name perhaps? a true mid size luxury sports 9-5 sedan, and a world class sporty entry level 9-3 sedan to battle the 3- series, A4 and G37. The new 9-3 could possibly revert to a traditional 3 and 5 door hatch body style. Front wheel drive should be dropped faster than plutonium brick, and XWD should be tweaked a'la Audi's Quattro, to have a performance bias. Oh and about that that SUV, we dont need any more rebadged Trailblazers or SRXs, just a fine wagon will do (Audi Allroad, Volvo Cross Country, Subaru Outback).
