Asian Le Mans

New Le Mans series to debut in Japan, thirty cars already on the grid.

From the producers of the French 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Le Mans Series comes a new stage for the Le Mans empire to display its relevance: Asia. A decade after the American Le Mans Series was formed (which isn’t sanction by the French ACO), the ACO has announced an Asian Le Mans Series for 2009.

From asian-lemans-series.com:

The ACO is officially launching the Asian Le Mans Series in 2009 with the first two races taking place on the Okayama circuit in Japan on 30th October and 1st November.

It seems appropriate that the most natural place for the Asian le Mans Series to begin is in the Land of the Rising Sun, which has a strong motor racing tradition, major manufacturers and a burning love for the Le Mans 24 Hours. All the country

i dont see how it would step on the toes of the JTCC/SuperGT... unless i'm confusing series... i think this asian lemans series is a big step in motorsports.

I have no idea why anyone would want to fork out the money for a GT1 program when next year there won't be one, and by running in GT2 you would give yourself a better head start for the GT class with a 5.5L motor, and this series will only step on the toes of super GT if nissan decides to jump ship for Asian Le Mans series

An inter-series battle royale would be cool with the Toyota MR-S, 350Z, GT-R and NSX going up against the usual Le Mans GT suspects.
