The Mach 2 Racing RS200, with Mark Rennison at the helm, is going to try and beat the elusive 10-minute mark at Pikes Peak this weekend. This is a record that is basically bat-shit insane to try and beat, considering the current record of 10.01.41, which was set by a Suzuki XL7 that bested a record held for 13 years, is extremely fast.
The RS200 will attempt the record run thanks to a 950 horsepower 2.4L turbocharged four-cylinder. The motor makes most of its power thanks to a prototype Garrett turbocharger which adjusts for changes in atmospheric pressure throughout the course. A nitrous oxide system will be on tap for 200hp, which they say is available for up to three minutes of the total run. With specialized gearing for the run, the RS200 can get to 60 mph in less than two seconds and hit its top speed of 140 mph in six seconds, which is much faster than anything you’ve driven.
Two other fast Fords, a pair of 800+ horsepower Fiestas, will be piloted by Marcus Gr
