46 years after the original Grand Sport moniker first debuted on a Corvette in 1963, Chevrolet has announced plans to re-introduce the Grand Sport model for 2010. It’s been a while since we last saw any signs of a Grand Sport Corvette, Chevrolet produced one in 1996 to mark the end of the C4 body style, but Chevrolet’s new toy promises to live up to the name. The Grand Sport will still be powered by an LS3 V8 producing 430hp – 436 with the optional two-mode exhaust – but the engine will be complimented by wider front and rear fenders, larger brakes, a specially tuned suspension, and a specically re-designed transmission, equipped with revised gear ratios. Manuals will also benefit from a dry-sump oil system as well as a differential cooler and rear mounted battery. Maybe not the most exciting thing, but hey at least they’re trying. Plus Corvette fans already have the Z06 and ZR1. We’ll take ours in a hard top with a manual. Pics and full press release below.
