Forty-five years ago today the Ford Mustang was born. It went on sale to the public on April 16th for $2,368. The car was a joint effort between executive Lee Iacocca and product manager Don Frey. On its debut the Mustang, according to Iacocca, was a Ford Falcon with “a whole new skin and greenhouse.” This helped Ford save money sourcing parts for the car. The Stang was indeed an affordable sporty car, but buyers were paying over $1,000 in options when ordering the car from the factory. Iacocca was noted as saying, “People want economy so badly they don’t care how much they pay for it.” Still true today, aye?
