Greatest F1 Pass?

Mika Häkkinen: "I went completely inside."

Cry us a Gustav-flooded river that Formula One doesn’t have enough passing. We’ll (almost) take one pass like this every decade to the dozen or so mundane passes Nascar swaps per race. The setting: Spa, 2000. The only driver Michael Schumacher ever feared was Mika Häkkinen (funny how his replacement would be a Finn, right?). No matter what kinda hot-shit driver you think you are, you’ll never have the balls of either of these two. Up towards the right hander at Le Combes Mika catches up to Schumi. They’re both about to lap BAR’s Ricardo Zonta—at nearly 200 mph Mika goes for it and blows Schumi’s mind and forces a split between Zonta. Watch the whole sequence and be prepared to be blown away. At about 2:10 the magic happens. Another view with commentary.

Schumacher won that year with Häkkinen coming in at second in the drivers’ points.
