Combat Senna

Behind the scenes with Senna at drivers' briefings.

Every driver, no matter what the racing discipline be it F1, ALMS or Nascar, must attend a drivers’ briefing with race and track officials to discuss the ins and outs of the impending race. At these meetings one of our favorite drivers, Ayrton Senna, was known for his outspokenness towards the officials and at times throwing minor tantrums when he felt he wasn’t being heard or was insulted. Here are a few forgotten videos for you to soak up.

German F1 Drivers’ Briefing In this vid (circa 1991) Senna goes after former F1 boss Jean-Marie Balestre regarding tire barriers. The two have had a history. “In 1989, after Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost collided at Suzuka, there were implications in Autosport Magazine that Balestre was involved in manipulating the World Championship in favor of Prost, as Senna was disqualified from race victory, fined, and suspended.” (Wiki)

The video below is a briefing from Suzuka in 1990. Piquet expresses his concerns about race stewards and flag procedure. We think he takes a stab at Senna regarding something about last year (Senna vs Prost). Watch as he gets up in disgust.

Senna > Prost. It's that simple.
