1947: Porsche Freed from Prison

This day in motoring history.

Sixty-one years ago today Ferdinand Porsche was set free from a French prison following WWII. Porsche was accused of being a suspected Nazi collaborator by the United States and French occupation authorities. He spent 20 months in jail while his son Ferry, who was also jailed but was released before his father, tried to keep the Porsche automotive business above water.
