Parking lot meet-ups are the antithesis of a driving event. Think about it. You park, then stand outside of ya car. Save for the hope of a few burnouts, maybe an illegal contest of speed, or on a super good night, some forum beef taken to knuckles, they tend to side on the mundane. So when we heard that Subaru Rally Team USA was going to be in town for the new DC driving shoe launch, it seemed only right that instead of showing them a wild night in the big city, we drag them 35 miles east to hang out at a Dave + Busters’ parking lot…in the rain.
In addition to bringing with us the current Rally America points leader Ken Block, his Monster Rally Car that is now famous for that 171-foot jump and Travis Pastrana’s co-driver Christian Edstrom, we drove out the One Lap STi that we raced with Ken in 2006 (Yeah, and since Scotto’s name is still on it, the crowd treated him like a rock star. People, he’s just a magazine dude!). Anyway we could wax poetic here about how amazing it was to see nearly 100 Subarus (mainly from SQC and LISC) lined up on a crappy Wednesday night for us to arrive, or about how stoked everyone, especially the girl who drove four hours from Albany, was to meet Ken and inspect the cars, but we won’t. We will let the pictures and video tell the story.
P.S. Yeah, Ken actually drifted around the Airport Plaza Security Guard…he was none to pleased, but the crowd loved it.
