Ford's Four-Points

Ford designers are investigating new seatbelt set-ups, one of which is basically a race harness.

A good ol’ Schroth harness always seemed safer to us then the conventional seatbelt system, and apparently we are not alone on this belief. Two concept vehicles from Ford that were debuted at the Detroit Auto Show, both feature a four-point seatbelt. And here is what FoMoCo has to say about it…

Recent customer research showed Ford scientists and engineers that some consumers perceive fourpoint belts to be safer, as well as more comfortable and, depending on their design, easier to use than traditional three-point belts. Ford scientists are using this feedback – and the correlating data – as research continues on this potential safety belt of the future.

Now, who knows where Ford is going to go with this, but c’mon, wouldn’t you dig a Mustang GT with four point harnesses? Granted, they might not be SCCA legal, but all of us rolling around with harnesses now would seem like visionaries if this becomes the seatbelt of the future.
